Class 5
This year, we are going to explore the world’s biomes, local history and the Second World War!
Our Topic will be WW2 and its impact in the local area. This will include a trip to Dunkeswell to meet our local historians who will show the children around their charming museum. The site is a Nissen Hut used by the 101st Airborne Division prior to the landings in D-Day and it is a lovely mix of British and American history – complete with uniforms to wear and even artifacts to hold. I encourage any parents to send in historical items for show and tell – priceless items are best photocopied or emailed to me. I had a child bring in a VC one year and I was worried it would be damaged or lost!
Literacy will cover books on Greek History and poems from across the world. We will begin to write with attention to our audience and develop our own particular style to be able to communicate in any way needed for the world.
Numeracy will delve into the basics of place value and calculation skills – through the medium of investigations into Goblin-infested tunnels, and more practical, monetary budgets and the like.
The Term has already started fantastically and I just know they will all have a wonderful time!
