Class 3

In RE this term, we will be learning about Muslims and the Islamic religion. We will be learning how fes t ivals and worship show what matters to Muslims. Then we will be looking at Christianity and exploring the question: What kind of world did Jesus want?

In English, we will be reading and studying a variety of texts including: The Mysteries of Harris Burdick, Small in the City, Last Stop on Market Street and Roald Dahl’s The Minpins. We will be writing diary entries, poems, letters, stories and information reports, making sure our writing is detailed and engag ing for the reader.

In Maths, Year 2’s will be learning about Fractions, Time, Statistics and Position and Direction this term. Year 3’s will be learning about Fractions, Money, Time, Shape and Statistics. By the end of year 2, chil dren should know their 2, 3, 5 and 10 times table. By the end of year 3, children should know their 2, 3,4,5 and 8 times tables. We will practising these as much as possible in class. .

In Topic we will be learning about International Trade and Europe. We will be developing our map reading skills, as well as studying globes to help us work out where countries and continents are in the world. We will be introduced to time zones and find out about the populations of countries, as well as understanding why we trade goods between these countries.

In Science, we will be learning all about Plants and growing our own! We will be learning about the functions of different parts of plants and exploring the requirements of plants for life. Also, we will be investigating the way in which water is transported within plants and exploring the role of flowers in the life cycle of flowering plants.

In Art, we are learning how to paint objects in 3D using tints and shades.

In French, the children will be learning 10 familiar activities that they are able to do or not able to do in French. We will also be learning 10 different fruits in French.

In PSHE, we will be naming our body parts and discussing the difference between appropriate and in appropriate touch (there will be a letter about this coming home). We will also be thinking about how we can look after our planet.

In Computing, we will be learning how to use pictograms digitally and exploring safely digital music.
