Class 3

In RE this term, we will be discussing the questions: What do Christians learn from the Creation story?  How do festivals and family life show what matters to Jewish people?

In English, we will be studying a variety of fiction under the themes of ‘Wishes and Aspirations’ and ‘Creation and Conservation’. We will begin the year taking a trip to the circus and a magic show with Leon and the Place Between.  We will then be writing in informative leaflet after reading Dear Earth.  In Term 2, we will be reading The Journey Home and be writing posters, postcards and persuasive letters.  Our last Autumn text will be We Are Water Protectors.

In Maths, we will be revising and extending our knowledge of place value, particularly focusing on 2 and 3 digit numbers. We will be learning how to add and subtract 2 and 3 digit numbers using the column method. We will also be revising our knowledge of the 2, 5 and 10 times tables and learning the 3 and 4 times table.

In Science this term, we will be learning about Animals (including Humans). This will include learning about the different ways that plants and animals including humans obtain food. We will be learning about the difference between different food groups.  We will also study what the right type of food and nutrition is for humans as well as the consequences related to eating the wrong type of diet. We will also learn about the scientific names for the main bones in the human body.

In History, we will be learning about the Stone Age, Iron Age and Bronze Age.  We will be learning about how early humans lived- from hunting and gathering to farming. We will learn about Stone Age tools, cave paintings and Stonehenge. We will learn about the introduction of metal tools and weapons during the Bronze Age. Furthermore, we will learn about Bronze Age farming, burial practices and hill forts. We will also learn how iron replaced bronze to make stronger tools and weapons and study Celtic tribes and roundhouses.

In Art, we will be learning about pre-historic painting and use these ancient art works to inspire our own drawing and painting.

In Music, this term, we are learning an R and B song called ‘Let Your Spirit Fly’.  Next term, the children will be learning how to play Glockenspiels.

In French, we are improving our pronunciation of the French phonemes and then we will be learning how to introduce ourselves and say how we feel.
